GoTo Announces Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo as New President of Gojek On-Demand Services

- PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo), a leading technology company in Southeast Asia, announced on February 1st the appointment of Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo as the new President of Gojek, a business unit of GoTo's On-Demand Services. The appointment aims to strengthen the organization and accelerate its move towards profitability. Catherine's leadership will oversee transportation services, online food delivery, and logistics.

Catherine, who was previously the Director/Head of Food and Indonesia Sales & Ops, will be responsible for making GoTo a reliable partner for consumers' daily needs, as well as a positive impact on millions of driver and merchant partners. She expressed that she was honored to have been chosen for the role, but also felt a great sense of responsibility to make GoTo a success.

"With closer collaboration between on-demand, e-commerce, and financial technology services, I want to continue to make GoTo a reliable partner for people in their daily lives, starting from meeting their daily needs to bringing positive impacts to millions of driver and merchant partners. It is a big dream, but great hopes like this are what motivates me and my colleagues at GoTo to work diligently to find solutions every day," said Catherine in a statement.

Before joining Gojek, Catherine was the CEO of Alfacart and the Managing Director as well as Co-Founder of Zalora Indonesia. Both online retailers experienced significant growth under her leadership. Catherine uses her expertise in retail and e-commerce to empower people who want to become entrepreneurs and develop small and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM) at Gojek.

"GoTo is not just a technology company, but it has become an ecosystem that is inseparable from the daily lives of millions of people. Therefore, working here is very inspiring, because what we do every day has a real impact on the lives of many people," explained the Nanyang Technological University alumnus.

Apart from Catherine, two other important figures who have been entrusted with leading GoTo's business units are Melissa Siska Juminto, who will serve as President of the E-Commerce unit, while continuing to hold her position as Director/Chief Human Resources Officer, and Hans Patuwo, who currently serves as Director/Head of Payments and Financial Services, will serve as President of the Financial Technology unit.

GoTo's CEO Andre Soelistyo expressed his pride in being able to appoint leaders of Catherine, Melissa, and Hans' caliber to take on greater responsibilities, enabling the company to generate new ideas and have a sharper focus on accelerating GoTo's move towards profitability.


Catherine's Early Career at Gojek

Catherine's achievements as the head of Gojek are quite extensive. She joined Gojek in 2017 to lead the GoFood food delivery platform and was responsible for strategic expansion and commercial projects at Gojek.

Under her leadership, in five years, the number of GoFood merchants grew five-fold from 200,000 to over one million, making it one of the largest food delivery services in Southeast Asia. Catherine was also able to respond quickly to the pandemic's impact by inviting food UMKM affected by the PPKM in 2020-2021 to switch their businesses to the online food delivery platform.

Moreover, GoFood nurtured business partners through training and networking via the GoFood Partner Community (KOMPAG). One of Catherine's major concerns was improving the standard of living for driver partners and their families. She promoted the Swadaya Program, which was designed to reduce driver partners' operational burdens through providing affordable credit, discounts on vehicle maintenance, and cheap daily groceries and meals.

As for her new role as President of Gojek's On-Demand Services business unit, Catherine expressed her excitement and gratitude, but also acknowledged the immense responsibility that comes with it. She shared her vision of making GoTo the go-to platform for daily needs, through closer collaboration between the on-demand, e-commerce, and financial technology lines of business.

"This is a big dream, but it is hope like this that motivates me and my colleagues at GoTo to work hard and find solutions every day," Catherine said in a statement.

Catherine brings a wealth of experience in retail and e-commerce to her new role at Gojek. Before joining the company, she was the CEO of Alfacart and the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Zalora Indonesia, both of which saw rapid growth under her leadership.

At Gojek, Catherine aims to empower entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to thrive. In addition to Catherine, two other key figures have been appointed as leaders of other GoTo business units. Melissa Siska Juminto will serve as President of the E-Commerce business unit (Tokopedia) while continuing in her role as Director and Chief Human Resources Officer of GoTo, and Hans Patuwo, currently the Director and Head of Payments and Financial Services, will become President of the Financial Technology business unit (GoTo Financial).

GoTo CEO Andre Soelistyo expressed his confidence in the newly appointed leaders, saying that they have proven themselves to be capable leaders with extensive experience in developing businesses. He believes that their appointment will help the company generate new ideas and have a sharper focus on accelerating GoTo's path to profitability.

Catherine's career at Gojek began in 2017 when she joined the company to lead the GoFood food delivery platform and oversee strategic expansion and commercial projects. Catherine also led GoFood's quick response to the pandemic by inviting food SMEs affected by the mobility restrictions in 2020-2021 to shift their business to the online food delivery platform. She also focused on improving the livelihoods of Gojek driver-partners and their families through the Swadaya program, which provides various benefits such as affordable phone credits, discounted vehicle maintenance, daily shopping subsidies, and affordable meal packages.

Since the program's launch in 2016, millions of Gojek partners and their families have benefited from its services, including additional insurance coverage and access to financial planning tools like savings accounts, loans, and affordable home mortgages.
