Bakrie and Gaya Abadi Sempurna (SLIS) Partner to Make Electric Motorbikes

Receh.in - PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas (VKTR), a subsidiary of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), is increasingly focusing on developing an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. 

After partnering with various parties, VKTR is now positioning itself to also enter the electric motorcycle industry by partnering with PT Gaya Abadi Sempurna Tbk (GAS/SLIS), the parent company of PT Juara Bike, a producer of electric vehicles under the Selis brand.

VKTR's CEO, Gilarsi W. Setijono, said that VKTR's entry into the electric motorcycle industry is part of the company's commitment to supporting the government's goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2060. This is because the use of motorcycles in Indonesia is very high, so reducing the negative impact of emissions is very significant.

"In 2021, just in Java, there were 89,660,579 motorcycles out of a total of 119,536,624 in Indonesia. It is no wonder that motorcycles account for 69% of the total national gasoline supply. So, we fully support the government's program to encourage people to switch to electric motorcycles," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties in Jakarta on Friday (23/12/2022).

The MoU was signed by Gilarsi W. Setijono and GAS CEO Edi Hanafiah Kwanto, along with GAS President Commissioner Tjoa King Hoa. The signing, Gilarsi added, was part of a workshop involving both parties. During the workshop, the concept of the electric motorcycle to be produced by VKTR and GAS, as well as quality, beta testing, and accelerated production with a target of meeting the government's local component level (TKDN) requirements, were discussed in detail.

Gilarsi said that he is optimistic that the signing of the MoU, along with the resources possessed by both parties, will be able to break into the market and produce high-quality electric motorcycles that meet the needs of the public.

"VKTR and GAS are both electric vehicle manufacturers. GAS has a track record of reliability in producing electric motorcycles. I believe that this partnership will be big in the future and able to produce reliable products to support the high mobility of the public.
