- PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) has reported record profits for 2022, with a consolidated net profit of Rp 40.7 trillion, a 29.6% increase year-on-year.

BCA also saw a 13.6% growth in net interest income, reaching Rp 64.14 trillion.

The bank attributed its profitability to its intermediation efforts, with total loan disbursements growing 11.7% year-on-year, driven by recovery in all credit segments.

The bank's efforts to develop a hybrid ecosystem also contributed to the record-breaking performance.

Despite global economic challenges, BCA's business continued to grow, thanks in part to strategic events such as the BCA Expo, BCA UMKM Fest, and BCA Wealth Summit.

These efforts led to a significant increase in housing loan disbursements, reaching Rp 108 trillion for the first time.

BCA's President Director, Jahja Setiaatmadja, stated that the bank's corporate credit portfolio was the main driver of loan growth, with a 12.5% increase year-on-year, followed by commercial credit at 10.1% year-on-year, and housing loans surpassing pre-pandemic levels with an 11% year-on-year increase at the end of 2022.

Overall, loan disbursements grew 11.7% to Rp 711.3 trillion in December 2022, exceeding the target growth of 8-10%.

Corporate credit increased 12.5% YoY to reach Rp322.2 trillion in December 2022, while commercial and SME credit rose 10.1% YoY to reach Rp210.2 trillion. In line with this achievement, housing loans grew 11.0% YoY to reach Rp108.3 trillion. Meanwhile, consumer credit card (KKB) rose 13.6% YoY to reach Rp46.1 trillion, able to rebound from the decline in the previous year.

In order to promote a circular economy, BCA also carried out initiatives to process waste from operational activities, including non-organic waste, document archive waste, ATM cartridges, and uniforms no longer used by BCA workers. Throughout the year 2022, a total of 518 tons of waste was managed by BCA.

"We are committed to contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia. The waste management initiative we carried out in 2022 has the potential to reduce emissions by 348.9 tons of CO2 or equivalent to preserving more than 29,000 trees. As an effort to create a comprehensive impact from upstream to downstream, the waste processing process is carried out by empowering local communities and SMEs. Then, the funds from the processing are channeled to the BCA Bakti Foundation, for scholarships for education for those in need," said Jahja.

The growth of BCA credit was followed by an improvement in loan quality. The loan at risk (LAR) ratio dropped to 10.0% in 2022, compared to 14.6% in 2021. Meanwhile, the non-performing loan (NPL) ratio was recorded at 1.7% in 2022, down from 2.2% in the previous year.
